55th PIHOA Conference: Pohnpei, March 2014

The 55th Pacific Island Health Officers Association Board Meeting was held in Pohnpei from March 11-13, 2014. The objective of the meeting was to convene senior and deputy health leadership from the Territory of American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Territory of Guam, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Public of Palau to discuss issues of regional significance, and by the end of the meeting, decide on critical priorities forward through official communiques, resolutions, and recommendations. The Board met and discussed the issues of critical importance, including various regional initiatives such as Regional Lab Strengthening, QA/QI/PIM/HIS, Human Resources for Health, Health Leadership for Legislative Change, and the progress of NCD Surveillance. Representatives from the World Health Organization, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, Pacific Islands Primary Care Association, and Fiji National University also attended the meeting.
